Abstract   

In the article there were used fragments of housekeeper’s and maid’s memories employed by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The story – preserved in the archives of Polish Radio – shows daily routine of a Polish writer. So we get to know the author of Quo Vadis through the memories of people who had direct and often long-term contact with him. It extends the context for exploring the notions and interpretation of the Sienkiewicz’s works. The article also uses the writer’s correspondence and other written sources, broadening the circumstances of knowledge about Sienkiewicz – as an individual and public figure.

Author Biography   

Agnieszka Kuniczuk-Trzcinowicz, University of Warsaw, Faculty of Artes Liberales

She obtained her Ph.D. in 2005 at the University of Wrocław. Assistant professor at the University of Warsaw (Faculty of “Artes Liberales”), collaborates with the Institute of Literary Research. Participant of grants thematically related to 19th-century literature and culture. Member of the editorial board of the yearly “Góry, Literatura, Kultura”. Her research interests focus on the work of Henryk Sienkiewicz and other creators of the positivism period, especially in the field of manuscripts, traces of the non-literary legacy of the most outstanding writers of the second half of the 19th century. She publishes in scientific journals in Poland and abroad. Author of the books: Sienkiewicz's talent and intuition. Studies and sketches (2014), Czyane pod skrzyżowaniem. Analize Proces myśliowego Sienkiewicza na rękopisów nowol (in print).
